I’m spending a few days in Dedham, Massachusetts to attend a series of training classes. It’s a small old (isn’t everything here old?) town about 25 miles outside of Boston. Here are some random thoughts I had…

I’m from Bawston
Man, everyone here has a pretty strong accent. I wonder if there is such thing as a Californian accent? Maybe it’s just called proper English.

Breakfast @ Residence Inn
I’m staying at the Residence Inn in Dedham. One of the perks there is that you get free breakfast. Today, I had “bisquits” and gravy. I wonder how those differ from biscuits. They taste the same. Yesterday, they had breakfast burritos - basically an egg with a tortilla around it. They should make a rule that requires at least 2+ ingredients inside the tortilla before it can be called a burrito.

Driving in the Breakdown Lanes
I guess they call the shoulders on the freeway out here the breakdown lane. During rush hour, you can drive on them. Boy, imagine my surprise as I tried to get onto the freeway. That doesn’t give you a whole lot of room to get up to speed. It’s just like the drunk driver lane really - people crossing solid lines, weaving close to the edge of the road and not exiting the freeway when it looks like they should be. It’s like a license to drive crazy during rush hour.

Avis has nice cars here
Avis hooked me up with a brand new Ford Escape as a mid-size rental. It only had 100 miles on it. It has that new car smell, but too bad it drives like a 5 year old car.

I got carded!
Wow…I got carded yesterday at Finz - a little seafood restaurant in Dedham. Granted, I was probably the youngest person there..but still, I’m a far cry from looking under 21. Maybe they just noticed my accent and wanted to see where I was from…
