Yeah - literally. I ran into this little road block while trying to leave the house today. I wonder if they ever thought it might just be some kid’s name on a lunch bag?
Irvine police, bomb squad investigate package on Irvine bus bench
Box with ‘bomb’ written on it contained paper and clothes.
IRVINE The Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad was called in Tuesday afternoon to investigate a suspicious package with the word “bomb” on it that ended up being paper and clothes, Irvine police said.
Firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority and Irvine police officers closed down and set up a perimeter around Alton Parkway and Valley Oak Drive after someone called 911 about 2:35 p.m. to report a box sitting alone on the bench, Irvine police Lt. Henry Boggs said.
Police shut down Alton parkway between Sand Canyon Avenue and Royal Oak, as cars U-turned and pedestrians were diverted in opposite directions. The bomb squad used a Remotec Robot to clear the package.
Cecilia Turton, from Long Beach, was trying to catch the bus but was told to go in a different direction. She was surprised to hear there was a suspicious package reported by her bus stop.
“That’s kind of crazy,” she said.
Streets were opened around 5 p.m. Police do not know who left the package.
