I signed up for the 2008 Counting Coup today. It’s an annual timed even put on by the Warrior’s Society.
The course is held in the Santa Ana mountains (look inland from Irvine and you’ll see them). The route I signed up for consists of 44+ miles with about 8000+ feet of climbing.
I’m not really sure what to expect. My longest rides to date have been just a little shy of 30 miles with only about 4500 feet of climbing. And since it’s a timed event, I really shouldn’t be stopping and resting for too long. There is at least one cut-off time I’ll need to make.
Well, the good news is that the event isn’t until March 1st, 2008, so I have a little bit of time to prepare. This will be my first timed endurance event. I guess this could be equated to running a half marathon, but I expect to be on a bike for 6-7 hours..and marathons are generally flat..
