After months of anticipation and delayed shipping dates, I finally got my hands on a Garmin Edge 305HR.

One of my intial concerns was that I would need an extra bike mount, but Garmin actually ships the edge with TWO bike mounts!

I took it out for a spin last night. Another concern I had was that my HID light would interfere with the heart rate monitor. They both work just fine in conjunction with each other.

According to the Garmin Edge, I rode 2.36 miles at an average speed of 11.8mph (max speed 19.2mph). I burned 99 calories and my average heart rate was 130 (max HR 151). Total ascent was 56 feet.

I still need to figure out some of the functions, but so far the Training Center software it comes with is pretty intuitive. One very cool software package they have for GPS enabled athletes is SportTracks.

I generated this map here of my initial “around the block” ride.

I should be going out for a few trail rides this weekend, so more Garmin posts to come soon!
