I’ve been wanting a GPS for a while now to take along on my mountain bike rides. Not due to the fact that I get lost a lot (Orange County trails aren’t that complicated), but I’m kind of a map freak. Google Earth has a function where you can import XML data from a GPS and plot out your route.

So I start doing some research and I was looking at the Garmin Forerunner 301 for a while.
Then I finally ran across what I really wanted. The Garmin Edge 305.

A GPS actually made for biking. Built-in heartrate monitor and altimeter. I can check and see how hard I’m actually working. And, there are some sites now like geoladders where you can hold virtual races against others.
The only bad part of all this is that it wont be available until January ‘06…

Since the Garmin 305 isn’t out yet, here’s an alternative.. the Garmin 301 with Heartrate Monitor. They even sell a bike mount for it..
