My last few rides have been flat tire hell. With images of goatheads still fresh in my mind, I finally decided that I should see what all the noise about going tubeless was.

I went and ordered a DT Swiss Tubeless Conversion Kit for my DT Swiss XR4.1d rims along with a Maxxis Ignitor 2.35 UST to use on the front of my Chumba Evo.

DT Swiss Tubeless Conversion Kit

The DT tubeless conversion kit came with excellent easy to follow instructions (w/ color photos for every step!) It was pretty easy to install - probably took less than 15 minutes. After everything was in place, I threw on the Maxxis Ignitor onto the rim. To my surprise, the tire slid on pretty easily - nothing a pair of semi-strong thumbs couldn’t handle.

The instructions say to add air to seat the tire prior to putting in the supplied sealant. It seated quite easily with just the use of a floor pump. I then let the air out, poured in the sealant, reinflated and took it for a quick spin around the block.

Everything seems to be fine. No sounds of leaks or anything. It took a total of about 30 minutes.

Of course, the moment of truth will be tomorrow when I take it out on the trail. Hopefully all goes well. I’ll keep you guys posted.
