Had an absolute blast riding the Old San Juan Trail today. The temperature at the bottom parking lot read a brisk 42 degrees on my car’s thermometer. Less than a 1/2 mile into the ride though, we were ready to shed off our jackets.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite routes to take my mountain bike. It’s 100% singletrack - 17 miles of it - so there are no boring fireroad climbs. There are quite a few technical sections that keeps it fun and exciting.
Some interesting things from today’s ride.
- I saw a Jeff Jones bike. Man, the craftsmanship is amazing.
- On the way down, I came around a corner and almost scared this guy to death. He was riding up with his Ipod blaring. I had a trail bell on, sounding like Santa Claus coming to town, and he still didn’t hear me. Using an Ipod on a 2-way singletrack is not the smartest thing to do.
- I saw the Unicorn on the way down. You know, like the mythical beast - you always hear about it, but never really see one. Just like your riding buddy that always says he’s going to show up, but never does. Alas - the Unicorn.
