I actually went on a mountain bike ride outside of Orange County for the first time ever. I went to visit my folks up in Pasadena, so I dragged my bike along and decided to give El Prieto a try.
It’s not a bad little loop. A very mild fireroad climb followed by a singletrack descent through a lush foresty area full of switchbacks and several stream crossings. One thing I noticed was the insane amount of smog there was while I was climbing. I couldn’t even make out Old Town Pasadena very clearly, and that was only a few miles away. I don’t think it ever gets that bad in OC.
I noticed a lot of other trails in the area during the ride as well as on the GPS overlay. I’ll have to come back some day to check those out.
